Jeff Poppell Named New Bolles Head Coach

New Head Swim Coach at Bolles

Jacksonville, Florida, April 23. DR. John E. Trainer, Jr., President and Head of School for The Bolles School, has announced the appointment of Jeff Poppell as the new Head Swim Coach. "We are very fortunate to have a candidate like Jeff to take over such an important program for the School," said Trainer.

Poppell has been part of the Bolles family for the last nine years. Most recently, he was the associate head coach for both The Bolles School and Bolles Sharks Swim Team.

"I am very aware of the philosophy and pillars which have been instrumental in the success of The Bolles School Swim Program. I look forward to the opportunity of building on the successful tradition established by both Larry Shofe and Gregg Troy," said Poppell.

When speaking about the Bolles Swim Program, Poppell stated: "I strongly believe that The Bolles School provides the ideal environment for a high school swimmer interested in receiving a quality education while also having the opportunity to compete for the most successful high school swimming program in the country. In addition, the Bolles Sharks swim team provides a well-rounded and solid community program for which children of all ages can learn to swim and compete in a positive and supportive environment."

Poppell, a graduate of the University of Georgia, has had an extensive swimming career. While at Georgia, he was the recipient and honoree of the University of Georgia Swim Team’s Jeff Poppell Award for Leadership and Overall Contribution to the University of Georgia; was captain for the men’s swim team; held the University of Georgia school record for both the 200 butterfly and 800 freestyle relay and won eleven gold medals at the Pan American Maccabiah Games in Uruguay.

In addition, Poppell’s swim record boasts twelve current or former national records for United States Masters Swimming. He was the 2001-2002 President of the Florida Swimming Coaches Association and a member of Florida Swimming’s Board of Directors. He will begin his new role as head coach for Bolles in early May.
