Jason Lezak, Sean Mahoney Take Down Meet Records at Clovis Speedo Sectional

CLOVIS, California, July 19. A pair of meet records fell during the second night of long course meter competition at the Clovis Speedo Sectional as Jason Lezak and Sean Mahoney grabbed the spotlight at the event.

Lezak ripped off the first sub-50 second 100 free in the history of the event when he touched in 49.32. While the time is not on the same level as his best time this year of 48.51 set at Worlds, it is a solid effort heading into nationals at the end of the month.

Meanwhile, Mahoney turned in a 2:18.52 in the 200 breaststroke to set a meet record of his own. He easily claimed the title over second-place finisher Vincent Pai's 2:23.99.

In other men's action, Jon Howard grabbed the 200 back crown in 2:06.99, while Tom Shields won the 200 fly in 2:03.71.

As for the women, Kate Dwelley pocketed the 100 free title in 56.70, just off the meet record, while Kirsty Chen, 15, hit the wall first in the 200 back with a time of 2:20.19 to emerge from a logjam that featured Jessica Cruzat (2:20.51), Laurence Delisle (2:20.74) and Liza Engstrom (2:20.80) each finish in the 2:20s.

Jordyn Green, 17, triumphed in the 200 breast with a time of 2:34.72 with a clean victory of more than a second, while Rachel Grant picked up the closest win of the night with a 2:16.76 to 2:16.91 win over Rachael Wahl.
