Japan’s Swimmers Locked Into Swimwear Contract

TOKYO, Japan, April 8. ACCORDING to an article in SwimmingView as well as several Swimming World Japanese correspondents, Japanese swimmers will only have access to apparel from three companies heading into Beijing.

The Japanese Swimming Federation has an exclusive contract with Asics, Mizuno and Descente, which distributes Arena. Accordingly, swimmers will only be allowed to wear swimwear from these companies.

Last year, Mizuno broke ties with Speedo and decided to create its own brand. Therefore, no Japanese swimmer will have access to any of the new suits currently available on the market other than the three brands with an exclusive arrangement with the national federation.
