Japan Leads Russia in Prelims of Synchro Duet

FUKUOKA, Japan. July 18. THE home team delighted a partisan crowd by taking the lead in the prelims of the synchronized swimming duet competition today at the 9th FINA World Championships in fukuoka, Japan.

The veteran Japanese team of Miya Tachibana and Miho Takeda scored 98.650 points to lead the defending Olympic champion Russians, who were a close second with 98.476 points. The Russians are dfending their crown with two newcomers, Anastasia Davydova and Anastassia Ermakova, both 18.

The Canadian team of Claire Carver-Dias and Fanny LeTourneau is third with 96.660, hoping to hold off America's Rebecca Martin and Lauren McFall with 96.169.
