James Wilby Wins 200 Breaststroke At British Summer Nationals

Day four of the British Summer Nationals saw 22-year-old James Wilby of Loughborough University take the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:10.91. Edinburgh teammates Calum Tait and Nicholas Quinn took second and third place in 2:11.32 and 2:13.25 respectively.

The meet also featured the men’s 1500 freestyle, where Daniel Jervis of Swansea Aquatics effortlessly claimed the event in 14:58.98, over 15 seconds ahead of the field. Earning second place was Jay Lelliott of Bath University in 15:14.66, and in third was Caleb Hughes of Loughborough in a time of 15:18.46 respectively.

The fastest 400 IM in the women’s event was posted by 18-year-old Lucy McKenzie of Stockport Metro. McKenzie just touched out Nova Centurion’s Amber Keegan by 0.1 as she claimed victory in a time of 4:45.22, while Keegan closely followed in 4:45.33. Teammate Rosie Rudin touched in third place in a time of 4:47.09.

In the men’s disciplinary event, Sunderland’s Josef Craig continued his successful meet by grabbing gold in the men’s 400 freestyle in 4:34.00. Earning silver was Michael Jones of Loughborough in 4:53.21, and winning the bronze medal was Jonathon Booth of the Borough of Kirklees, touching in 4:29.12. Craig belongs to category eight, Jones to category seven, and Booth to category nine.

On the women’s side Rosie Bancroft of Oxford stole the event in 4:46.88. In second place was Stephanie Millward of Aquae Sulis in 4:48.10, and in third was Eleanor Robinson of Northampton. Bancroft belongs to category ten, Millword to category nine, and Robinson to category six.

Joe Elwood posted the fastest time of the evening in the men’s 100 backstroke. The Loughborough swimmer’s 54.77 earned him the gold medal ahead of Stirling’s Charlie Boldison (55.08) and Sunderland’s Jonathon Carlisle (55.87).

Kathleen Dawson of Warrington was the only female to go sub 29 seconds in the women’s 50 backstroke. The 18-year-old stormed to victory in just 28.73 seconds, half a second ahead of Derby’s Harriett Cooper (29.12) and Thanet Swim’s Katie Latham (29.34).

I’m confused. Great swim but what record did James break? British is 2:07.30

This is a very odd article. The only 200m breaststroke record I am aware of for Adam Peaty is 2:11:07 for the 18 age group. But James Wilby is 22. Author explain.

English is 2:08.34 from Adam Peaty so not that.
