James Duthie Announced as Swimming Canada’s Big Splash Host

OTTAWA, Ontario, October 27.GEMINI award-winning broadcaster, James Duthie was announced today as the host of Swimming Canada's 2011 Big Splash by CN and Vezina Assurance to be held in Toronto on November 28th, 2011 at the John Bassett Theatre. The gala will honour Swimming Canada's Swimmers of the Year.

Duthie, who will serve as Co-Host of Olympic Daytime on CTV during the London 2012 Olympic Games, is also host of NHL on TSN.

An experienced and popular broadcaster, Duthie earned three Gemini Awards in the last three years, including one for Best Sportscaster/Anchor for his work with the Consortium on the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. The other two he earned for his work on NHL on TSN TradeCentre '09 and NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft, this past year. Duthie also anchored the morning SportsCentre coverage during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and covered hockey at the Turin 2006 Olympic Winter Games.

"I'm thrilled to be hosting the Big Splash this year," said Duthie. "It will be great to spend an evening talking about a sport where headshots aren't an issue…except on the occasional bad flip turn. My 10 year-old daughter swims, and she thinks this is the coolest hosting event I've ever had…way better than that "hockey stuff" I usually do."

Duthie adds that "Swimming is always his favourite Summer Olympic event. I have tremendous admiration for these athletes, at all levels. And I can't wait to be in London to cover Canada's athletes in the pool."

"We're excited to have James host the Big Splash this year" says Swimming Canada CEO and National Coach Pierre Lafontaine. "Having someone of his experience and talent will definitely add to the show, along with our entertainment and the other presenters we'll be announcing shortly."

More big announcements regarding Big Splash award presenters and musical guests will be coming out in the days and weeks ahead. The 2011 Big Splash promises to be an amazing show!
