IUPUI Hires Eric Barnes as Head Diving Coach

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, August 5. IUPUI head men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach Matt Bos announced today that Eric Barnes has been named the men’s and women’s diving coach.

This past year, Barnes was the head diving coach at Noblesville High School in Noblesville, Ind., where he mentored a pair of IHSAA State Qualifiers, with one of those qualifiers finishing second in the state.

Prior to his year at Noblesville, he has worked for the Indiana International School of Diving, the Ohio State Dive Club and the Tucson Diving Team in addition to his collegiate experience at the University of Toledo and former Summit League foe Oakland University.

“We’re excited to have Eric join our staff and I have no doubt that he will have a positive impact on our divers,” Bos said. “Eric has experience at all levels and that experience will be beneficial for our current and future divers.”

“I am very excited to join Matt Bos and the rest of the swimming and diving staff,” Barnes said. “I look forward to helping advance the program academically, in the Summit League rankings and within the Indianapolis community.”

While at the Ohio State Dive Club, Barnes helped two athletes qualify for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials and he also produced six national qualifiers and one junior national champion.

From 2008-10, he spent time as the Head Junior Olympic Coach for the Tucson Diving Team in Tucson, Ariz.

Barnes served as the head diving coach at Toledo from 1995-98 and at Oakland from 1994-95. While with the Golden Grizzlies he mentored one NCAA Division II National Champion, four NCAA Division II National Championship qualifiers and two NCAA Division II All-Americans.

Barnes graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1994, where he was a three-time All-MAC performer. While with the Eagles, he helped EMU claim four conference championships. Barnes later went on to complete his master’s degree in education from Toledo in 1998.
