Italian Diving Family Prepares for Olympic Competition

PHOENIX, Arizona, July 30. GIORGIO Cagnotto was a world-renowned diver for Italy, competing in five straight Olympic Games from 1964 to 1980. Now, he is a coach for the Italian Diving Team, and in this interview with SwimmingWorld.TV in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Cagnotto talks about his competition during his diving career. The interview appears on page 59 of the August digital issue of Swimming World Magazine.

Among the divers he coaches is his daughter, Tania, who Cagnotto said is "fun but sometimes difficult to coach her, but we have a good relation."

Tania Cagnotto, who won bronze medals at the world championships, said the Olympic Games is a different atmosphere because everyone will be at the top of their game.

Cagnotto said she enjoys having her father as a coach because "you have trust."

Cagnotto had a diving career at the University of Houston, where she said she was able to go to school and train, which she couldn't do in Italy. She had to return to Italy to serve in the national Army, but liked the support the government gives the athletes.
