Italian Championships: Roberta Panara Breaks Women’s 50 Breast Italian Record

LIVORNO, Italy, April 2. FOR the second day in a row at the Italian Championships, a national record took a tumble. Today, Robert Panara edged the women's 50 breast national standard at the meet held in Livorno.

Panara clocked a time of 31.72 to clip the previous standard by the slimmest of margins as Roberta Crescentini posted the previous top time of 31.73 set in 2001. Chiara Boggiatto finished second with a time of 32.18.

Romina Armellini started the day with a victory in the women's 200 back with a time of 2:13.94, while Nicola Cassio touched out Marco Belotti, 1:50.12 to 1:50.15, in the men's 200 free.

Mattie Nalesso snagged the men's 50 fly title in 24.29, while Cristina Chiuso touched out Silvia Copetta, 25.58 to 25.76, in the women's 50 free.

Other winners included Damiano Lestingi (1:58.66) in the men's 200 back, Alessia Filippi (4:45.36) in the women's 400 IM and Federico Turrini (2:00.73) in the men's 200 IM.
