ISHOF’s Bruce Wigo Honored by World Waterpark Association

LAS VEGAS, Nevada, October 31. BRUCE Wigo, the CEO of the International Swimming Hall of Fame, was awarded the Kelly Ogle Memorial Safety Award at the annual World Waterpark Association's 28th Annual Symposium and Trade Show at the MGM Grand Hotel, in Las Vegas, on Tuesday. The award is presented annually to an individual for significant contribution to guest and employee safety.

Wigo was recognized for his work in assisting the WWA to create, produce and film a series of water safety Public Service Announcements for radio and television, featuring Olympic gold medalists Mark Spitz, Janet Evans, Amanda Beard and 2008 Olympic gold medalist Jason Lezak.

"We're grateful for the assistance and leadership of Bruce Wigo in helping the World Waterpark Association to promote water safety, swimming and drowning prevention at waterparks and resorts throughout the world," said WWA President, Rick Root.

After receiving the Award, Wigo introduced 2008 Olympians Eric Shanteau, Brendan Hansen and Jason Lezak, and the first screening of the PSAs, to the WWA General Assembly.

Since joining ISHOF in 2005, Wigo has been actively involved in water safety initiatives, particularly focusing on minority populations. In addition to working with the WWA, Wigo also has assisted the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals (APSP), the world's largest international trade association and leading industry advocate representing the swimming pool, spa, and hot tub industry, with a series of similar PSAs.
