Irish Short Course Championships: Aisling Cooney Lowers Pair of National Marks

DUBLIN, Ireland, November 23. AISLING Cooney had a strong final two days of swimming at the Irish Short Course Championships, as she picked off two national records to conclude the meet.

On the third day, Cooney lowered her national record in the women's 50 back with a time of 28.37. That swim beat her 28.63 set back in 2008. The following day, she clocked a 59.89 in the women's 100 back to lower Melanie Nocher's 2008 national record of 1:00.42. She completed her meet with a 2:00.41 to win the women's 200 free.

Sycerika McMahon topped the women's 100 free in 56.10, while doubling up with a 2:16.59 in the women's 200 IM.

Meanwhile, Conor Leaney won the men's 100 free in 49.08, while Sean Leahy claimed the men's 200 IM in 2:03.26.

Additionally, Niamh McDonnell touched first in the women's 100 fly with a 1:01.39, while Philip Duffy took home the 100 fly title in 55.48, and Colm Dowling sprinted to victory in the men's 50 back with a 25.77.

On the fourth and final day of swimming, McMahon captured another title with a 4:51.83 in the women's 400 IM. She also doubled on the last day with a 1:09.68 in the women's 100 breast.

Leaney followed his 100 free triumph with a win in the 50 free in 22.76, while Shauna O'Brien placed first in the women's 50 free with a 26.75. Leaney earned his second victory of the day with a 1:49.04 in the men's 200 free.

Nicholas Quinn won the men's 400 IM in 4:34.33, while Donal O'Neill just missed his national record of 53.43 set last week with a winning time of 53.55 in the men's 100 back. Duffy added the 200 fly title to his 100 fly win with a 2:04.85.

Gillian Gavaghan topped the women's 200 fly in 2:18.26, while Stephan O'Nolan captured the men's 100 breast in 1:02.81.
