Iowa Short Course Senior Championships

IOWA CITY, Iowa, March 12. CENTRAL Iowa Aquatics (CIA) outscored all competition during the Iowa short-course yard Senior Swimming Championships at the University of Iowa Field house.

Female high point winner Maddie Bro from CIA won a total of three individual events including the 100 free (52.09), 200 free (1:54.38), and 100 back (56.96). Allison Orvis of the Dubuque Area Swimmin' Hurricanes also had individual success, winning the 1000 free (10:57.37) and 200 IM (2:08.37).

Ali Stearns of Mason City Swim Club and Beth Eyanson of the Iowa City Eels had two individual events each. Stearns won the 100 breast (1:05.87) and 200 breast (2:25.30) and Eyanson won the 100 fly (57.44) and 200 fly (2:10.87).

Other event winners included senior from the University of Iowa, Christine Kuczek, Gwen Sorensen of CIA, Katherine Anton of Cedar Rapids Aquatics, Montana Clasby of the Destroyers, and Margaret Barber. Kuczek won the 50 free (23.56), Sorensen won the 1650 free (18:12.93), Anton won the 200 back (2:01.98), Clasby won the 400 IM (4:46.26), and Barber won the 500 free (5:11.31).

CIA won three relays including the 400 free relay (3:39.16), 200-medley relay (1:52.54), and 400-medley relay (4:05.52). Black Hawk Area Swim Team won the 200 free relay (1:40.60) and the Iowa City Eels won the 800 free relay (7:54.18).

Male high point winner Steven Brus won an impressive total of five individual events including the 200 free (1:40.07), 100 back (51.43), 200 back (1:53.21), 200 fly (1:50.38), and 400 IM (4:07.86).

Kiel Huston of CIA won three events individually including the 100 breast (56.79), 200 breast (2:07.32) and 200 IM (1:55.49). Teammate Ed Lichinsky won two events including the 100 fly (50.12) and tied for the win in the 100 free (46.86) with Tommy Radtke from the University of Iowa.

Josh Hughes from Cedar Rapids Aquatics was also a multiple event winner, winning the 1000 free (10:06.81) and the 1650 free (16:49.56), which he won by over a minute.

Other event winners included Jordan Wessels of Blast and Nate Harris of CIA, winning the 50 free (21.40) and 500 free (4:49.72) respectively.

CIA swept the relays on the men's side including the 200 free relay (1:25.92), 400 free relay (3:10.2), 800 free relay (6:59.46), 200-medley relay (1:35.93), and the 400-medley relay (3:30.43).

CIA won the championships with 3327.5 points, Black Hawk Area Swim Team was second with 1326 points, and Dubuque Area Swimmin' Hurricanes were third with 1257 points.
