Industry News: Swimnetwork.com to Webcast the 2009 YMCA Short Course Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, April 6. CONTINUING its commitment to providing unequaled coverage of the sport of swimming, Swimnetwork.com will webcast the 2009 YMCA Short Course Championships April 6-9. The competition will take place at the Ft. Lauderdale Aquatic Complex in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Competition footage from the A finals will be available on demand following the first night of finals.

The YMCA Short Course Nationals features swimmers ages 12-18 from across the country. This year, more than 1600 swimmers from 27 states will compete in Ft. Lauderdale.

In addition to the on-demand race footage, Swimnetwork.com coverage of the YMCA Short Course Nationals will include athlete and coach interviews, photo galleries, behind the scenes coverage and a link to results. Olympic gold medalists Josh Davis and Mel Stewart will provide race commentary for the webcast.

"For those who have been, they know that YMCA Nationals in Ft. Lauderdale is one of the most exciting and fun meets in the country," Davis said. "Now those who haven't been can see just how great it is on swimnetwork.com. Yes, it's a fast meet but what sets this meet apart is how fun it is and its traditions. I'm ecstatic to work with Gold Medal Mel and bring the moments and memories of this great meet to your home. This is how a swim meet is done and I can't wait to be a part of it."

"I learned to swim at the Y," Stewart said. "I developed as a competitive swimmer in a Y program. I went to Y Nats six years in a row. I absolutely love the meet! I have never had more fun at a competition. For all those reasons, I can't wait to be in Fort Lauderdale to cover the event for Swimnetwork!"

The meet will follow the traditional schedule of morning prelims and evening finals. Finals start at 5:45 p.m. ET., Monday through Thursday. Prelims begin at 9 a.m. ET.
