Industry News: Swimming Canada Posts National Training Center Head Coach Position

POSITION:

National Training Centre Head Coach – Montreal

Swimming / Natation Canada, the national governing body for competitive swimming in Canada, is in search of a National Training Centre Head Coach to fill a vacant position at the National Training Centre located at the Olympic Pool in Montreal, QC.

This will be a contract position: September, 2008 (exact starting date to be negotiated) to March 31st, 2013.

DESCRIPTION:

The key responsibilities will include development and coaching of all facets of the National Training Centre program. Coaching responsibilities will include both residential program and outreach services for Quebec based national team athletes. The specific target of this position is to develop international medals for Canadian swimming with a priority on Olympic medals. Primary roles and responsibilities are:

• Development of a National Training Centre (NTC) residential program.
• Day-to-day coaching responsibilities for residential/NTC based athletes.
• Supervision of the day-to-day activities of the Assistant Centre Coach and development of a mentorship program with Quebec and Atlantic province coaches.
• Working directly with the sport science support staff (Integrated Support Team or I.S.T.) to service both residential and outreach athletes.
• Provide leadership for National Team training camp initiatives.
• In concert with the CEO / National Coach, provide technical development, leadership, direction and management for National Team activities.
• Work in conjunction with the CEO / National Coach to facilitate the progression of targeted coach/athlete tandems towards short-term and intermediate goals.

Assist the SNC national staff in the:
• Development and operation of an ‘outreach' program impacting carded athletes and their coaches external to the NTC residential program.
• Development of a strategy to host and work with visiting carded athletes and their coaches.
• Assist in the development of strategies for regional, provincial, national and international initiatives, such as camps and clinics.
• Assist the association's development of the Long Term Athlete Development strategy, club development strategies and elite development requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant will have a demonstrated and proven record of performances at the Olympic level. Strong communication and team-building skills are essential and a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment is critical. A proven self starter and an ability to effect communications is a requirement. An aptitude to educate and mentor will be considered an asset, as will sport administration skills.

An ability to communicate effectively in French and English is a preferred asset.
