To add to the coverage, SWAP includes an article on sportsmanship that highlights the after-race conduct of such phenoms as Brendan Hansen, Michael Phelps and Natalie Coughlin.

It's an extraordinary accomplishment to qualify for Olympic Trials, whether or not you are earnestly competing to make the USA team. Jillian Altenburger details the strategizing and training it took for her to qualify for Olympic Trials and swim a lifetime best at the meet.

Watching Trials provided inspiration to many athletes who are well on their way to establishing themselves as elite swimmers. One such swimmer is Danielle Romain who, as described in this issue, had won four New Jersey Junior Olympic High Point Awards by the time she was 14. Another is Chris DeLaFuente who was named Union County, New Jersey Male Swimmer of the Year.

The life of a student-athlete can be really difficult. Katie Hoff, who won five events at trials, states that being homeschooled makes her life easier because she can control her schedule. In an article written by a homeschooled swimmer, the benefits and drawbacks of homeschooling are discussed.

For the vast majority of students who are schooled traditionally, the challenge of trying to excel academically as well as athletically is enormous. Probably the most demanding year for a scholar athlete is junior year, the rigors of which are detailed in SWAP.
