Industry News: Myrtha Pools Extends Sponsorship of USA Swimming Through 2012

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, August 20. CONTINUING its sponsorship of USA Swimming, Myrtha Pools will remain the official pool provider for the national governing body for the sport of swimming in the U.S. through 2012. The partnership means that Myrtha will provide the competition and warm-down pools for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for the third consecutive time in 2012.

One 50-meter pool will be used for the competition in the main arena at Qwest Center Omaha, also the site of the 2008 Trials, and a second, warm-up pool will be placed in the adjacent convention center space. The 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials were the most successful domestic swimming event in history.

Myrtha is predominantly known as a manufacturer of permanent, in-ground pools for commercial projects. However, its innovation in temporary pools made possible the use of larger, non-traditional venues for the last two U.S. Olympic Team Trials. The construction of a temporary Myrtha pool, complete with grandstands, in a parking lot in Long Beach, Calif., in 2004, resulted in the best-attended event in history. In 2008, Myrtha and USA Swimming collaborated on another first for the U.S. Trials, building two 50-meter temporary pools indoors at Qwest Center Omaha in Omaha, Neb. That event surpassed the '04 Trials, setting new marks for attendance and tickets sold. Following the events, the pools were sold to private buyers to be placed in communities as permanent, in-ground projects.

"We are thrilled to extend our partnership with Myrtha Pools, specifically for the incredible quality Myrtha brings to our marquee event," said Chuck Wielgus, USA Swimming's Executive Director. "By providing a state-of-the-art product and doing so in an innovative and non-traditional way, Myrtha has helped us break the mold for swimming events, and to elevate our sport to an entirely new level. You need only to look back at our last two U.S. Olympic Team Trials to see that Myrtha pools have quite literally been the centerpiece of our most successful events."

In addition to the last two U.S. Olympic Team Trials, Myrtha pools were used at the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome, the 2005 FINA World Championships in Montreal, the 2004 Short Course World Championships at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

"We are once again thrilled to be an official partner with USA Swimming," said Roberto Colletto, CEO of Myrtha's parent company A&T Europe S.p.A. "We have experienced a wonderful relationship with USA Swimming over the last four years and look forward to even more record breaking attendance and world records during the 2012 Team Trials in Omaha."

With U.S. headquarters in Sarasota, Fla., Myrtha has constructed permanent pools in almost every market segment including athletic clubs, institutional, high rise, hotel/resorts, municipal, therapy, and YMCAs for use in more than 70 countries.
