Illinois State vs. Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Indiana, October 15. UNIVERSITY of Evansville diver Sadie Wells didn't waste any time qualifying for the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships. In just the fourth meet of the season, the sophomore posted a Zone-qualifying score of 271.35 on the 1-meter boards in tonight's dual meet against Illinois State. Wells ended the night with the tops scores for both the 1M and 3M boards, scoring a 269.33 on the latter event.

"It's a really great accomplishment to qualify for Zones, especially this early in the season," commented diving coach Eric Blevins.

Overall, the Aces posted nine first place finishes against the Redbirds. The final score of the meet was UE 132, Illinois State 168.

"We are very happy with this meet," said head coach Rickey Perkins. "This was a very tough meet and we did a lot of things well. I think we did an especially good job battling strong towards the end."

Alex Howard and Melissa Thurman led the way for the Aces, each taking two first place finishes. Howard posted top times in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke while Thurman took first in the 200-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard individual medley.

The Aces return to UE's Wyttenbach Pool tomorrow as they join the men's team in a dual meet against Centre College. The meet begins at 1:00 p.m.
