Hungarian Olympic Champ Trains in US

Attila Czene, who won the 200m individual medley at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, is in the U.S. and training with the Sun Devils Swim Team in Tempe, Arizona, under the direction of coach Mike Chasson. The Hungarian, who qualified seventh in Atlanta, then “stole” the race from lane 1, did much of his pre-Olympic training with the rest of the Hungarian men’s team at the Phoenix Swim Club.

Czene, who has been swimming with the Sun Devils since early November, hopes to gain admittance to Arizona State University and swim in next year’s NCAA championships.
