High School State Swimming Championships: Colorado 4A Boys

THORNTON, Colorado, May 20. AIR Academy scored 324 points to claim the championship title at the Colorado State High School 4A Swimming and Diving Championships. The meet was held May 17-18 at the Veterans' Memorial Aquatic Center in Thornton.

D'Evelyn took second place, six points ahead of Coronado (239-233). Rounding out the top five teams were Thompson Valley (194) and Discovery Canyon (187).

Broomfield senior Martin Wallace set a 4A division record in the 500 free with his 4:31.86, and also nabbed first in the 200 free (1:40.27). John Thorne, a Thompson Valley sophomore, set the other individual division mark in the 100 back (49.78). Junior Kyle Allison led off the Coronado 200 free relay of seniors Bryan Rossmanith, Eric Albert and Danny Kay to a division record-setting 1:26.66.

The meet started off with an exciting duel in the 200 medley relay. D'Evelyn's team of junior Kevin Olson, senior Michael Feller, junior Jake Sbarbaro and sophomore Daniel Graber out-touched the Air Academy squad of seniors Devon Davis and Carson Shollenbarger, freshman Caleb Hicks and sophomore Michael Loyd, 1:36.73-1:36.83. Davis led off Air Academy's victorious 400 free relay of sophomores Hunter Doerr and Jack Dangremond, plus Tommy Baker (3:11.16).

Davis touched first in the 100 fly (50.72), and Graber topped the field in the 100 breast (59.34).

Estes Park junior Forrest Beasley doubled in the sprint free events with times of 21.13 in the 50 free and 45.94 in the 100 free. Tyler Lis, a sophomore at Silver Creek, was this year's champion in the 200 IM (1:54.46). Broomfield senior Cody Engstrom's 507.15 points earned him the diving title.
