High School State Championships: Tennessee Boys, Girls

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee, February 11. BAYLOR swimmers combined for five individual and two relay victories during the girls portion of the Tennessee High School Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 8-9 in Knoxville. This year’s meet was hosted by the Pilot Aquatic Club.

Kristen Vredeveld and Hannah Pfeiffer each claimed two individual wins for the Raiders. Vredeveld took charge of the sprint free events, turning in times of 22.91 in the 50 yard free and 49.57 in the 100 free. Pfeiffer’s winning swims took place in the 200 IM (2:05.10) and the 100 back (54.18). Bree Roman captured first in the 100 breast (1:03.44).

Baylor School also won the 200 yard relays. Kimberlee John-Williams joined Vredeveld, Pfeiffer and Roman for the 200 medley relay (1:42.16) and the 200 free relay (1:33.05).

Harpeth Hall’s quartet of Michelle Chintanaphol, Kate Beuter, Morgan Flynn and Elizabeth Stinson ended the meet with a first-place 3:30.45 in the 400 free relay. Stinson’s 4:50.53 earned her first place in the 500 free.

Christ Presbyterian’s Tatum Wade posted a 1:48.38, good for first in the 200 free. The 100 fly champion was Mt. Juliet’s Carrie Johnson (54.62).

Bearden’s Evan Pinion was the only double-event champion on the boys side with his wins in the 200 free (1:38.81) and the 500 free (4:24.22). Individual event winners included Baylor’s Sam McHugh (200 IM, 1:48.00) and Chandler Hinson (100 free, 46.01), Science Hill’s Tyler Mills (50 free, 20.94), Memphis University’s Pace Clark (100 fly, 47.37), Montgomery Bell’s Chatham Dobbs (100 back, 48.45) and Signal Mountain’s Mathias Porter (100 breast, 56.35).

Dobbs was joined by Tate Ramsden, Harold Duke and Andrew Dobbs for Montgomery Bell’s 400 free relay victory (3:07.79). Hinson anchored the winning 200 free relay for Baylor with Luke Kaliszak, Christian Selby and Dustin Tynes (1:24.37). The Ravenwood quartet of Ted Curtiss, Alex Goss, Reece Boyd and Grant Stafford began the boys portion of the meet with a first-place 1:32.22 in the 200 medley relay.
