High School State Championships: Georgia 6A

ATLANTA, Georgia, February 11. LASSITER senior Jimmy Yoder set one individual and aided in a relay state record at the Georgia 6A Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 8-9. The meet was held on the campus of Georgia Tech University in Atlanta.

Yoder's 48.16 erased Taylor Dale's mark from last year in the 100 yard fly (48.55). Yoder anchored the Lassiter 400 free relay of senior teammates Daniel Bridgers and Zach Bunner, along with junior Zach Marshall, to set a state record 3:06.12. Northview set the prior mark last year with their 3:06.26. The quartet also triumphed in the 200 free relay (1:24.87).

Yoder also claimed the 200 free individual event, posting a 1:37.49. Bunner also was a multi-event champion, posting times of 1:50.51 in the 200 IM and 49.40 in the 100 back over Chattahoochee junior Jay Litherland (49.48). Also claiming two first-place awards was Mill Creek senior Chris Powell, via his 20.66 in the 50 free and 45.06 in the 100 free.

Nick LaMontagne, a senior at Brookwood, outtouched Parkview senior Geoffrey Carter in the 100 breast, 56.84-56.88. Alpharetta senior Cody Reul was tops in the 500 free (4:26.93).

Chattahoochee put together a team of junior Jay Litherland and Mick Litherland, plus senior Alan Rabstejnek and sophomore Jacob Rubin, to claim victory in the 200 medley relay (1:34.35).

Parkview–despite having no individual or relay champions–emerged ahead of the team standings over Chattahoochee, 234-226. Lassiter finished third (211), with North Gwinnett fourth (169). Alpharetta's 148.5 points put them in fourth, 2-1/2 points ahead of Collins Hill (146).

Lambert's 292 put them in first place in the girls competition, ahead of Peachtree Ridge (222), Lassiter (197), Johns Creek (185) and Brookwood (170). Kennesaw Mountain was just three points back of fifth (167).

Junior Megan Bestor, sophomore Ashley Mallon, senior Ellie Sills and freshman Katherine Aikins took first in the 200 medley relay for Lassiter (1:46.32); freshman Emma Fish and junior Aubrey Jones joined Bestor and Aikins for a triumph in the 200 free relay (1:37.02). Kennesaw Mountain grabbed the 400 free relay (3:29.98) with the foursome of seniors Savannah Long and Melissa Postoll, plus junior Maggie Layde and sophomore Rebecca Postoll.

Rebecca Postoll climbed twice to the top of the podium stand with her wins in the 200 free (1:47.65) and 500 free (4:48.49). Milton junior Katie Grover equaled Postoll's feat with her first-place swims of 53.55 in the 100 fly and 55.21 in the 100 back.

Four juniors claimed victory in their respective events. Archer's Alexis Smith finished the 50 free race in 23.14, and Kaitlin Kitchens of Johns Creek's 51.49 gave her first in the 100 free. Carrington BeVier from Peachtree Ridge posted a 1:04.29 in the 100 breast, and Walton's Kira De Bruyn's 2:04.22 was tops in the 200 IM.
