High School State Championships: CIF Southern Section Division 4

RIVERSIDE, California, May 16. ST. Monica Catholic junior Eugene Tee posted a 1:51.13 in the 200 yard IM to set the only division record at the CIF Southern Section Division 4 Championships May 10-11 in Riverside.

Tee's time cleared out Joshua Hanson's 2010 time of 1:52.68. Tee gained a second victory with his 4:31.20 effort in the 500 free. Two other swimmers grabbed two event wins each: Beaumont senior Bilal Walker in the 50 and 100 free (21.61 and 47.24) and Buckley junior Daniel Primachenko in the 100 breast (59.90) and 100 fly (52.64).

Two juniors battled it out in the 200 free, with Arlington's James Reyes defeating Viewpoint's John Brody, 1:42.23-1:42.35. Austin Wilson, a sophomore at Buckley, captured the 100 back in 54.78.

Temescal Canyon senior Naz Pounds, along with juniors Jake Gallagher, Jesse Hayward and Devin Deckert, claimed first in the 200 medley relay (1:41.20). Beaumont's quartet of seniors Brody Wood, Nicholas Jenson, Patrick Calderwood and Walker were first in the 200 free relay (1:30.89); junior Garrett Houston joined Wood, Jenson and Walker for the 400 free relay victory (3:17.40).

Temescal Canyon and Beaumont went 1-2 in the team race, 275-255. Viewpoint came in third (211.5), with Woodcrest Christian fourth (165.5) and Don Antonio Lugo fifth (154).

In the girls competition, Sierra Canyon senior Lilly Parks emerged victorious in both the 200 IM (2:09.91) and 100 breast (1:05.57). La Salle junior Samantha Torrez also picked up wins in both the 100 back (59.83) and 100 fly (58.05). Kimberly Kuni, a junior at Desert Christian, finished close behind Torres in the 100 fly with her 58.20. She clocked 5:13.90 for the 500 free win.

Notre Dame senior Karly Fisch claimed the 50 free crown in 24.61. Brentwood freshman Mardell Ramirez was tops in the 100 free, and Alverno sophomore Kali Kearns nabbed the 200 free with her 1:56.14.

Citrus Valley's 200 medley relay of senior Kahiwa Hollands, sophomore Jessica Ramos, junior Kailee Mora and senior Natasha Fares combined for a 1:52.03 win. Holland, Fares, senior Megan Beckham and Mora dueled Woodcrest's team of sophomores Jenna Frazer, Tori Kimsey and Sarah Mossman plus junior Jolyn Green to a 1:43.34-1:43.40 victory. The La Salle 400 free relay of senior Ellie Rae Hoffman, sophomore Michelle Michelle Basham, senior Arolyn Basham and Torrez cruised to a 3:43.26 triumph.

In a tight race for first, La Salle emerged on top over Viewpoint, 249.5-248. Not too far behind them was Citrus Valley with their 228 points. Garden Grove was fourth with 212, followed by Orcutt Academy with 186.
