Hershey Boys; Baylor, Carmel Girls Win Swimming World’s National High School Championships for 2011

PHOENIX, Arizona, September 2. WITH a workhorse like David Nolan, the reigning Swimming World Male National High School Swimmer of the Year, providing some serious point-scoring power, the Hershey boys won theSwimming World National High School Championship this year. Additionally, for the second time since the award's inception in the early 1970s, the Baylor and Carmel girls shared the title among in the girls division.

For just the fifth time since 1997, when Swimming World first began recognizing a Male High School Swimmer of the Year, that swimmer went on to help a team win the overall team title. Previous individual titlists to power their teams to victory were Bolles' Alex Lim (2000), St. Xavier's Jayme Cramer (2001), Lake Forest's Matt Grevers (2003) and Brophy Prep's Alex Righi (2005). The win also marks the first time a public school in Pennsylvania has won the title.

For the girls, the tie is just the second such occurrence with the first being in 2005 when Ann Arbor Pioneer and Germantown Academy shared the title. Baylor has now won a pair of overall titles with wins in 2009 and 2011, while Carmel's 25th straight state title finally produced an overall national title. Carmel has topped the public school charts five times with wins in 1995-96, 1998 and 2009-11.
