Hawaii Splits With Arizona State (M: 158.5-141.5; W 123-177)

HONOLULU, Hawaii, September 28. THE University of Hawaii men's swimming and diving team defeated Arizona State 158.5-141.5. Meanwhile, Hawaii's women fell to Arizona State, 177-123, in the season opener for both teams at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.

For the men, Hawaii (1-0) opened the meet with an impressive win in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:32.08.

UH would go on to win seven of the individual events led by Greg Wilson, Nicola Xella and Magnus Frick each taking two apiece.

Wilson won both the 100 (49.72) and 200 (1:52.36) fly events. Xella finished first in both the 100 (56.28) and 200 (2:05.41) breast swims, while diver Frick swept the 1-meter (384.10) and 3-meter (381.45) springboard events.

Senior Grzegorz Mroz notched the only other with for the Rainbow Warriors posting a time of 1:41.44 in the 200 Free.

In the women's meet, the Sun Devils (1-0) won 10 of the 16 events, capturing both relays and eight individual events.

Newcomer Emma Berry won three individual events for the Rainbow Wahine. The sophomore touched the wall first in the 1000 free with a winning time of 10:13.17. She then followed it up with first-place finished in both the 500 free (4:58.82) and 400 IM (4:28.22).

Hawaii (0-1) captured both diving events led by Emma Friesen. The sophomore took the 1-meter springboard with a score of 279.55 and followed it up with a first-place showing on the 3-meter with a total of 289.30. Both scores qualified her for the NCAA Zone E Diving Regional that takes place in March.

Freshman Brianna de Palezieux won the only other event for UH with her time of 2:22.21 in the 200 breast.
