Hartwick Swimming Hosts Hartwick Relays

ONEONTA, New York, October 19. Hartwick swimming hosted the Hartwick Relays on Saturday with the men’s team picking up the victory.  SUNY-Oneonta won the women’s team title.

On Saturday Hartwick’s swimming and diving teams opened their seasons with the ninth annual Hartwick Relays at the Sally Griffiths Herbert ’88 Aquatics Center on Saturday. The Hartwick men came away with a first-place finish as a team. The Hawk women placed fourth.

The men finished the day with 118 points, in front of second-place St. Rose (100), Le Moyne (94), Oneonta (82), Cobleskill (36), and Wells (8). The top four teams on the women’s side finished within 12 points of each other.

The ‘Wick men placed first in a total of six races on the day. Senior Miles Blaney (New York, NY/NYC Lab School), junior Matt Plunkett (Cooper City, FL/Cooper City), and sophomores Joe Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield), Brian Edmister (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley Central), Luis Santiesteban (Key Largo, FL/Coral Shores), and Brendan Quinn (Raleigh, NC/Heritage) each were a part of three wining efforts for the Hawks.

The Hartwick women earned a pair of first-place finishes. Junior Helen Merkley (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland), sophomore Kelsey Elliott (Cortland, NY/Homer), and seniors Kaitlyn Campbell (Bartlett, IL/Glenbard North) and Gwen Mathias (Sunland, CA/Southwestern Academy) were victorious in the 850 crescendo. Their time was 8:38.12.

Imma Rutligiano (Tillson, NY/John A. Coleman), Rachel Bellis (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy), Campbell, and Elliott also won the 400 free relay in 3:49.32.

The Hartwick are back at home next Saturday in the Hartwick quad-meet.
