Hansen, Woodring Record 2nd-Fastest Prep Times

Two swimmers recorded the second fastest 100 yard breaststroke times in high school competition last Saturday at the Pennsylvania State High School championships.

Brenden Hansen stroked a 53.93 to win the boys’ title. His time has only been bettered by Patrick Fowler, who set the national high school mark at 53.66 last year. Fowler won the Washington state title last month in 54.01.

Kristen Woodring, Wilson High School, just missed her own national mark of 1:00.74 set at her regional championship two weeks ago, touching in 1:01.10. Her 1:00.74 broke Kristy Kowal’s 1:01.47 set in 1996. Kowal also attended Wilson High School.

In a great show of courage and sportsmanship, Justin Donato, Coatesville Area H.S., who had qualified for the finals of the 100 free, swam the event using one arm, having dislocated his shoulder. He finished last in 1:13, but received a rousing ovation from the sell-out crowd.
