Hannah Katigar Takes Four Individual Titles at Speedo Sectional Championships

WAUKESHA, Wisconsin, March 10. WAUKESHA Express hosted a very fast Central Speedo Sectional Championship meet this past weekend. Aberdeen Swim Club's Hannah Katigar came away with four individual titles, while AquaStorm's Dylan Sether, Iowa City Eels' Alex Walton and North Aquatics Club Jacob Pearson all earned three titles on the men's side.

Pearson started his run in the freestyle events on the first night of finals, claiming the men's 1000 yard freestyle in a 9:33.94. He showed skills in mid-distance racing next, clocking a 1:41.38 and 4:38.33 for wins in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle events, respectively.

Walton was a force to be reckoned with in the backstroke events. He swam a 49.92 for his first win in the 100 yard backstroke, then posted a 1:51.54 to cinch the 200 IM. On the last night of finals, Walton dominated the field in the 200 backstroke, winning by over three seconds at a 1:48.33.

Sether first win of the meet came in the men's 100 yard breaststroke; he cruised to a 57.39 for the win. He next showcased some stroke versatility, and claimed the 400 IM with a 4:04.93. Sether ended the meet on a high note Sunday night with a 1:52.93 200 butterfly win.

Kastigar showed some serious versatility throughout the meet on her way to four individual titles. She started her run with a 2:00.66 win in the 200 IM on the second night of finals, then started the third night with a win the 400 IM, with a fast 4:14.39. She downed her competition in the 500 freestyle next, posing a 4:55.51 for the win, then secured her dominance in the meet with a last-event win in the 200 butterfly at a 1:59.72.

USA Swimming National team member and Wisconsin alumni Ashley Wanland also took a number of titles at the sectional championships. Wanland swept the breaststroke events with a 59.81 in the 100 and 2:10.71 in the 200. Her winning time in the 200 was a full five seconds ahead of second-place finished Katharine Ross.

Catherine Meili and Central Iowa Aquatic's Madeleine Gehrke also doubled up on titles, in the 100 fly and backstroke and 50 and 100 freestyle events, respectively.
