Greta Andersen, Penny Dean and Shelley Taylor-Smith to Speak on Open Water

Greta Andersen, Penny Dean and Shelley Taylor-Smith, three of the greatest marathon swimmers of all time, male or female, will set on their exploits at the Global Open Water Swimming Conference in Long Beach, California on June 5th.

All three women faced the best male marathoners of their respective eras and did the female gender quite proud in mano-a-mano professional marathon swims and channel swims from England to California.

They will each speak about some of their remarkable swims and at-that-time unheard-of training methods, including Andersen's unprecedented double-crossing of the Catalina Channel and her 50-mile swim in Lake Michigan and how she used to train 10 miles daily along the oceans of California without goggles. Dean will speak about the day she shattered the English Channel world record and her 36,000-meter workouts. Shelley Taylor-Smith will speak about the year 1991 when she bested everyone on the world professional marathon swimming circuit, male or female and how she used to train and race in bikinis because then "the jellyfish would just roll off my body instead of getting stuck in my suit."

They will join a host of other renowned open water swimming experts, coaches, athletes and triathlon personalities in presentations, panel discussions and networking opportunities that will culminate in a special open water swimming ceremony.

The experts will also offer an in-depth video analysis of race tactics and swimming techniques used by the elite athletes in the USA Swimming National 10K Open Water Swimming Championships that will be held the day before the conference.
