Great Britain vs. Germany Duel in the Pool: Germany Wins, 240-195

ESSEN, Germany, February 6. THE final night of the two-day Great Britain vs. Germany Duel in the Pool came to a close with Germany claiming a 240-195 victory in the long course meter format competition.

Jemma Lowe of Britain moved to third in the early world rankings of the women's 200 fly with a 2:10.64. Only Ellen Gandy (2:08.02) and Kim Vandenberg (2:10.03) have been faster so far. Germany's Franziska Hentke placed second in 2:14.45, while Britain's Alys Thomas touched third in 2:17.64.

Britain's Hannah Miley improved to fourth in the early rankings of the women's 200 IM with a 2:14.83. Kirsty Coventry (2:13.40), Mireia Belmonte (2:13.41) and Missy Frankling (2:14.68) are the only women faster this year. Britain's Sophie Smith (2:16.66) and Kate Hutchinson (2:17.86) earned second and third tonight.

Germany's Hendrik Feldwehr took fifth in the men's 100 breast early world rankings with a 1:02.06. Daniel Gyurta has the top time with a 1:01.18 from Antwerp last month. Germany's Johannes Neumann took second in 1:03.14 with Britain's Chris Steeples placing third in 1:04.60.

Jaz Carlin captured the women's 200 free title for Britain with a 2:00.03, while teammate Emma Saunders finished second in 2:01.65. Germany's Annika Bruhn wound up third in 2:01.74. Britain went 1-2 in the men's 200 free with Robbie Renwick winning in 1:50.10. Teammate Josh Walsh touched second in 1:50.50, while Germany's Clemens Rapp took third in 1:52.00.

Britain's Joe Roebuck took home the men's 200 fly in 2:00.42, while Germany's Tim Wallburger wound up second in 2:02.76. Germany's Dorothea Brandt topped the women's 50 free in 25.71. Britain's Amy Smith (25.95) and Emma Wilkins (26.13) took second and third. Germany's Steffen Deibler won the men's 50 free in 23.06 with Britain's Craig Gibbons taking second in 23.39.

Germany's Jan David Schepers (2:03.55) and Markus Deibler (2:03.64) took first and second in the men's 200 IM. Britain's Lewis Smith rounded out the top three in 2:05.88. Britain's Rachel Lefley clinched the women's 100 back in 1:02.08, while Germany's Jenny Mensing took second in 1:02.42. Germany's Jan-Philip Glania (55.91), Felix Wolf (55.92) and Helge Meeuw (56.84) swept the top three in the men's 100 back.

Sina Sutter of Germany won the women's 50 fly in 27.23 with teammate Lisa Vitting touching second in 27.62. Britain's Emma Wilkins claimed third in 27.79. Germany's Steffen Deibler (24.74) and Stefan Herbst (24.96) took first and second in the men's 50 fly. Britain's Antony James placed third in 24.98.

Germany's Caroline Ruhnau grabbed the women's 100 breast title in 1:09.50 with Britain's Stacey Tadd placing second in 1:10.53.

In distance swimming, Britain's Megan Gilchrist (16:39.27) and Aimee Willmott (16:48.39) went 1-2 in the women's 1500 free with Germany's Nadine Reichert taking third in 16:55.60. Germany's Christian Kubusch took the men's 1500 free title in 15:37.46. Teammate Yannick Lebherz touched second in 15:42.65, while Tom Allen grabbed third in 15:54.23.

Germany's Lisa Graf, Caroline Ruhnau, Lisa Vitting and Daniela Schreiber won the women's 200 medley relay in 1:54.50, while Britain's Hannah Miley, Jaz Carlin, Ameilia Maughan and Emma Saunders won the women's 800 free relay in 8:08.09.

Germany's Helge Meeuw, Hendrik Feldwehr, Steffen Deibler and Markus Deibler followed up with a 1:39.99 to win the men's 200 medley relay. Germany's Yannick Lebherz, Tim Wallburger, Robin Backhaus and Clemens Rapp topped the men's 800 free relay in 7:24.35.
