Gold Defeats Cardinal 120-89 at Iowa State Intrasquad Meet

AMES, Iowa, October 4. THE Gold team topped the Cardinal squad 120-89 Friday night at Beyer Pool as the Iowa State swimming and diving team held its annual intrasquad event.

Three-time ISU most valuable swimmer Petra Plaminkova won the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.93 and the 100 breaststroke (1:07.78). Senior Susanne Notbohm swam to a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:55.11) and the 100 butterfly (59.57). Junior Brita Benson finished first in both the 50 freestyle (24.43) and 100 freestyle (53.42).

"I was pleased by the way the team raced against each other," ISU swimming coach Duane Sorenson said. "Brita and Susanne were both outstanding in their individual events tonight, and Petra was her usual solid self."

In diving, senior Linda Wagner swept the events, winning both the 1-meter (260.09) and 3-meter competition (231.90) for the Cardinal squad.

"Overall, I was very encouraged with our diving," ISU diving coach Jeff Warrick said. " This is the earliest we've held this meet and I think the team handled themselves well. They weren't holding back and were very competitive."

Iowa State will host the Big 12 Relays on Friday Oct. 17 in the Beyer Hall Pool.
