Gillette Hosts, Wins Wyoming 4A State Meet

GILLETTE, Wyoming, March 1. GILLETTE played the dual role of host and team champion at the Wyoming 4A men's championship.

Kelly Walsh, led by senior David Schmitt, placed second with 222 points. Laramie finished in third place in the team scoring with 212 points.

Schmitt lit up the pool, swimming the top times in each of his two individual events. Schmitt swam to a 1:55.25 finish in his 200 IM with the second place finisher trailing four seconds behind him. He continued his run swimming a near miss record time in his 100 butterfly. His 50.97 time stood short of the record time of 50.85.

Laramie senior Isak Nti-Asare outdid his competition in the two sprint events. He placed first in the 50 freestyle (21.29) as well as the 100 freestyle (46.83).

Gillette won two out of the three relays. The 200 medley relay quartet of Thad Stoddard, Bridger Miller, Danny MacDonald and Ian Thamm edged out the competition swimming to a 1:38.28 time. Building on its medley relay success, Gillette fielded another championship relay comprised of Stoddard, Thamm, Justin Sullivan and Miller in the 200 freestyle relay competition (1:28.07).

Billy Hrabovsky of Central won by a narrow margin in diving. His 390.10 score bested close second and third place finishes by Evanston's Brock Martin (386.80) and Laramie's Taylor Johnson (382.60).
