Gettysburg Sweeps McDaniel

GETTYSBURG, Pennsylvania, November 9. BOTH the Gettysburg men's and women's swimming teams defeated McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Wednesday, 103-78 and 116-68, respectively.

The Gettysburg women (2-0, 2-0 CC) took home seven of the 11 events that were contested. Sophomores Emilie Youmans, Sarah Andryauskas and Demery Close each won two events to lead the Bullets. Youmans won the 100 back in 1:02.75, Andryauskas was victorious in the 100 fly and Close was the fastest swimmer in the 100 free with a time of 56.85. All three were a part of the event-winning 200 medley relay team that finished in 2:07.65.

Seniors Cali Nelson and Emily Bohdan as well as sophomore Emily Steiner were also event winners for Gettysburg. Nelson was the fourth member of the 200 medley relay squad, Bohdan won the 50 Free in 25.95 and Steiner finished the 400 IM in 4:59.64.

The Gettysburg men (1-1, 1-1 CC) were led by senior Derek Claiborne won two individual events and was a part of the winning 200 medley relay team. He won the 50 free in 23:21, and he finished in first in the 100 free with his time of 50.86. Joining Claiborne on the 200 Medley Relay team were senior Brian Loveland, sophomore Matt Bacon and freshman Michael Walsh.

Gettysburg's other multiple event winner, senior Brian Pernice, claimed victory in both the 200 free and the 100 back. Other event-winning Bullets were sophomore Matt Rush in the 1000 free and senior David Gibbons in the 100 fly.
