Gettysburg Sweeps Dickinson

GETTYSBURG, Pennsylvania, January 31. GETTYSBURG's men's and women's swimming teams defeated Dickinson in a Centennial Conference (CC) showdown on Wednesday evening at the College Union Building Natatorium. The women's squad won 130-75, while the men's team downed the Red Devils 110-95.

Gettysburg's women's swimming team (7-1, 6-0 CC) remains undefeated in conference meets and in sole possession of first place in the conference. Senior captains Cali Nelson (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) and Emily Bohdan (Darien, Conn./Darien), junior Allison Pettine (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), sophomore Sarah Andryauskas (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) and freshman Alex Newman (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) all won two events to lead the Bullets.

Winning two individual events, Newman placed first in the 200 Free (2:01.27) and 500 Free (5:23.79). Nelson chalked up a victory in the 100 Breast in 1:10.54. Pettine was victorious in the 200 IM, touching in 2:19.13. With a time of 59.92, Andryauskas was the winner in the 100 Fly.

The team of Nelson, Andryauskas, Bohdan and sophomore Emilie Youmans (South Portland, Maine/Cheverus) teamed to win the 200 Medley Relay in 1:55.68. The Bullets' other relay team of Pettine, Bohdan and sophomores Caitlin Reilly (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) and Demery Close (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) took home a win in the 200 Free Relay.

Gettysburg's other event winner was junior Katie Wright (Haddam, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) in the 1000 Free (11:13.82).

On the men's side, Gettysburg (3-4, 3-2 CC) was led by senior captain Derek Claiborne's (Darien, Conn./Darien) three victories. Claiborne won the 50 Free (22.73), the 100 Free (49.82), and was a member of the winning 200 Medley Relay team that clocked in at 13.26. Joining him on the relay squad were seniors Brian Loveland (Easton, Md./Easton) and Brian Pernice (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown) as well as freshman Donnie Jones (Vauxhall, N.J./Seton Hall Prep School).

Also winning for the Bullets was senior Andrew Pickell (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) and junior Peter Levin (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan Regional). Pickell won the 100 Breast in 1:05.70, and Levin was victorious in the 1000 Free (10:47.57).
