Germany Bounces Back to End Open Water Program at Europeans

BUDAPEST, Hungary, July 30. AFTER witnessing the French dominate the men’s 25k, the German women closed out the open water program portion of the 28th LEN European Championships in Budapest, Hungary in fine fashion on Sunday.

Germany’s Angela Maurer claimed her second title of the meet in the women’s 25k after winning the 10k. In one of the closest races of the competition, Maurer came in just ahead of Russia’s Natalya Pankina with a 5:35:19.1 against Pankina’s 5:35:25.1. Meanwhile, Maurer’s teammate Stefanie Biller pocketed bronze with a 5:35:29.5.

The event concluded the open water events at the 28th LEN European Championships. The meet will also watch synchronized swimming come to a close today, while meter swimming begins on Monday and diving opens on Tuesday.
