Germantown vs. Peddie

HIGHTSTOWN, New Jersey, January 29. THERE was plenty of drama in the new aquatic center as it opened to a heart-pounding finish with the Peddie girls nipping Germantown Academy in the 400-yard freestyle relay to clinch the meet, 88-82, before a standing room only crowd. The Falcon boys had an easier time handling the Patriots, winning eight events en route to a 108-62 victory. Connor Signorin and Nimrod Hayet each posted double wins and added firepower to two winning relays.

"There is a lot of excitement and anticipation in the rivalry between Germantown Academy and Peddie," said Falcon coach Greg Wriede '95, a former Peddie and Harvard All-American. "And doing it in a new pool just added to it."

In relays events, eight points go to the first-place finisher with four for second place and two for third place. The math was simple with the girls score knotted at 78-78. Get to the wall first and celebrate. Carolyn Fittin, Molly Mucciarone, Jillian Liwacz and Laura Loughran raced out to the lead and held on to a charging Sarah Aemisegger, edging the GA quartet, 3:30.05 to 3:30.20. Loughran anchored the nail-biter with a 51.96, while lead-off swimmer Fittin split a 51.51 to give the Falcon foursome the early advantage.

Fittin, the winner of the 200 freestyle (1:51.10) and the 100 butterfly (55.86), jump-started the 200 free relay with a quick 23.38 first leg as teammates Molly Mucciarone, Loughran and anchor Kendese Nangle (23.69) clocked an impressive 1:35.72 to win handily.

The boys meet was never in doubt as Brendan Walsh, Daniel Fine, Nimrod Hayet and Pete Fittin easily won the 200 medley relay for starters, and Jeremy Wong, Hayet, P. Fittin and Signorin (45.13) romped to a 9.94 second victory in the 400 free relay.

Signorin touched first in the 200 free (140:45) and 500 free (4:29.51), while Hayet cruised in the 100 fly (49:86) and 100 breaststroke (58.46) to complete his double win. Wong swam a personal best 1:42.71 in the 200 free to grab second place.
