Germantown Academy Blasts National High School Record in 400 Freestyle Relay

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania. February 25. THE girls from Germantown Academy (Pennsylvania) obliterated the national high school record in the 400-yard freestyle relay on Saturday night at the Eastern Interscholastic Championships at La Salle University. The foursome of Katie Riefenstahl (50.89), Sara Coenen (51.10), Teresa Crippen (50.78) and Alicia Aemisegger (49.57) clocked an eye-popping 3:22.34, well under the former standard of 3:23.85, set by Pioneer High in Ann Arbor, Michigan last fall.

Germantown Academy won the team title for both genders with the girls rolling to a 100-plus point triumph over the Peddie School (New Jersey) and the guys taking a 37-point victory over Mercersburg Academy (Pennsylvania). A full report on the second day of action will follow. A recap of the opening-night events is posted on SwimmingWorldMagazine.com.
