German Short Course Championships: Yannick Lebherz Breaks German Record

WUPPERTAL, Germany, November 11. A German record took a tumble during the distance-filled first night of action at the German Short Course Championships.

Yannick Lebherz raced to a winning time of 4:08.52 in the men's 400 IM. That swim cleared his 2008 national record of 4:09.95 set in Essen, and moved Lebherz to 10th in the world this year. Jan David Schepers took second in 4:10.04, while Morten Ahme earned third in 4:11.39.

Christian Kubusch topped the men's 800 free in 7:51.92 for eighth in the world rankings this year. Joel Ax placed second overall in 7:53.85, while Robert Nuble earned third in 7:58.56.

Elisa Thimm won the women's 1500 free in 16:20.79, taking eighth in the world rankings. Sarah Kohler (16:25.12) and Nadja Muller (16:25.91) rounded out the podium in the distance event. Nina Schiffer took home the women's 400 IM in 4:36.46, while Theresa Michalak placed second in 4:38.33. Katharina Schiller wound up third overall in 4:40.33.
