By Jason Marsteller

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, March 10. GEORGIA's Kara Lynn Joyce closed to within one title of Stanford's Jenny Thompson with her 18th career title and fourth consecutive win in the 100 free touching in 47.24 – the second-fastest time in history. She also became the second-best swimmer in the event behind Natalie Coughlin. She joined Thompson as the only other fourpeat in the history of the event.

The win also tied Georgia with Stanford for the all-time lead in 100 freestyle title at seven each.

Meanwhile, Arizona's Lacey Nymeyer placed second in 47.34, while California's Emily Silver took third in 47.45.

In the team battle, Auburn increased its total to 450 with Arizona sitting second with 411. California remained in third with 286.5 points, while Stanford (274) and Georgia (253) closed out the rest of the top five.
