Georgia Tech Men, Tennessee Women Win Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA, Georgia. November 24. GEORGIA Tech’s men’s team and Tennessee’s women’s team retained their leads on day three of the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational to take home the top honors at the meet.

On the men’s side, Georgia Tech’s Elliot Brockelbank kicked the afternoon off with a win in the 1650 freestyle. His time of 15:21.94 earned him an NCAA B-cut. Second place David Heron from Tennessee also earned a B-cut with his time of 15:22.09. Tennesses’s Sam Petersen touched third in a time of 15:39.48.

In the 200 back, Tennessee’s Sean Lehane blew away the rest of the field with his winning time of 1:44.86 good for an NCAA B-cut. His teammate Jimmy Dagley placed second with a time of 1:50.94 and Georgia Tech’s Wilson Wei touched third at 1:51.29.

The Yellow Jackets’ Anton Lagerqvist won the 200 breast, shaving over two seconds of his prelims time to clock in at 2:01.40. Tennessee’s Tristan Slater (2:03.24) touched just ahead of teammate Ross Dibblin (2:03.54) to take second.

It was a close finish in the 100 free, with Tennessee’s Luke Percy hitting the wall at 43.48 just ahead of Georgia Tech’s Andrew Kosic (43.97). The two both earned B-cuts for those times. Florida Atlantic’s Matthieu Barthez clocked in third with a time of 44.71.

Georgia Tech swept the 200 fly, with a pair of B-cuts as well. Nico van Duijn took a second and a half off the B-cut he earned in prelims and hit the wall first at 1:44.75. Freshman Ben Southern earned a B-cut as well with his second place finish at 1:47.49. Mark Sarman rounded out the Yellow Jacket trio, clocking in third with a time of 1:50.27.

The 400 free relay was a close one, with Tennessee just touching out Georgia Tech in the final event of the meet. The team of Gustav Aberg Ledjstrom, Troy Tillman, Sean Lehane, and Luke Percy ended strong with a time of 2:56.55, just ahead of Georgia Tech (2:56.83). Florida Atlantic placed third with a time of 3:04.42.

On the women’s side, Tennessee swept the mile and earned a pair of NCAA B-cuts this afternoon. Freshman Madeline Tegner clocked in first with a time of 16:22.19, followed by classmate Camryne Morris at 16:28.83. Morgan Dickson placed third with a time of 16:40.78.

Florida Gulf Coast’s Kira Toussaint improved on her B-cut time from prelims to win the 200 back in a time of 1:56.50. Chrissy Oberg of Vanderbilt, who earned a B-cut with her prelims time of 1:58.24, touched second at 1:59.46, while her teammate Chandler Soapes clocked in at 2:00.00 for third.

The 100 free was a close one, with the top three finishers all within a tenth of a second of each other. Tennessee’s Faith Johnson touched first with a time of 50.22, just ahead of Florida Gulf Coast’s Sara Hamilton (50.24). Hamilton’s teammate Emma Svensson hit the wall third at 50.34.

James Madison earned a pair of B-cuts in the 200 breast. Kelsey Holmgaard took first with a time of 2:14.73, touching out teammate Sin Hye Won (2:14.90). Vanderbilt’s Elly Faulkner placed third with a time of 2:16.13.

Florida Atlantic’s Annet Kovacs earned a B-cut for her effort in the 200 fly, and at 1:58.71 was the only woman in the field under the two-minute mark. Tennessee’s Heather Lundstrom touched second with a time of 2:00.51, and Vanderbilt’s Kayla Moran clocked a 2:01.30 for third.

Tennessee capped off the night, and their overall victory at the meet, with a win in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Lindsay Gendron, Kate McNeillis, Harper Bruens, and Faith Johnson clocked in at 3:21.18 to take first place. Florida Gulf Coast were second (3:22.34) and Georgia Tech placed third (3:25.27).
