Georgia Splits With Florida (M:111-132; W:148-95)

ATHENS, Georgia, October 25. THE Georgia swimming and diving teams split with Florida in a long-course contest at Gabrielsen Natatorium on Thursday afternoon. The men's competition — decided in the final relay — went the Gators' way with a 132-111 decision. The Georgia women extended their home win streak to 59 dual meets with a resounding 148-95 score.

"Those were two great meets," Georgia head coach Jack Bauerle said. "Our women were very good throughout. This year's team is going to keep coming after you and be tough because of the depth. I was as proud of our men as I can be. To have it go right down to the end like that was exciting. At the same time, the guys are leaving a little disappointed, which is good because we don't ever want to accept losing. They swam this meet with a lot of heart, a lot of character."

The Lady Bulldogs were off to a quick start with the top finish in the 400m medley relay behind the strength of Alek Putra, Kelly McNichols, Lisa Caprioglio, and Courtney Monsees (4:17.76, B standard). The Lady Bulldogs took the top three places in three events, the 200m free (all B standards from Chelsea Nauta, Anna Miller, and Morgan Scroggy), the 200m back (all B standards from Putra, Scroggy, Lauren Groblewski), and the 200m breast (Mhyria Miller [B], Lauren Cartwright, and Colleen Haase). Other event winners included Anne-Marie Botek (50m free, 26.55, B), Elizabeth Hill (200m fly, 2:18.73 B), Mhyria Miller (200m breast, 2:36.65, B), Monsees (200m IM, 2:19.33, B), and Hannah Moore (3m diving, 288.08). The Lady Bulldogs won the final 400m free relay with a B-cut from Monsees, Nauta, Cole and A. Miller (3: 49.30).

For the Bulldogs, co-captain Sebastien Rouault was a triple-event winner, posting the top times in the 800m free (8:16.12), 200m free (1:53.10, B standard), and 400m free (3:58.54). Chris Colwill doubled-up in the win column, taking firsts on both 1m and 3m boards. The Bulldogs also got first-place finishes from Craig Jennings (50m free, 23.76) and Gil Stovall (200m fly, 2:02.37, B standard).
