Georgia Signs Top High School Diver

ATHENS, Ga., January 2. UNIVERSITY of Georgia head diving coach Dan Laak announced the signing today of diver Sara Hershman during the early signing period this past November. Hershman inked a national letter of intent to study and compete at the University this upcoming fall.

Hershman, who is a senior at Barrington High School, is a four-time high school All-American and has two Illinois state champion titles to her credit. She has also been a state high school runner-up on two occasions.

"I am real excited about Sara coming to Georgia," said Laak. "She has a lot of talent, especially on platform where we are short right now. Sara is going to be one of those divers that blossoms during their college career, so it will be exciting to watch her develop over the next four years. I am looking forward to the opportunity to coach her."

At the 2002 Junior National Championships, Hershman finished eighth on the platform event.

Hershman, who is from Barrington, Ill., trains with her age group coach Ron Merriott.
