Georgia Diving Invite Gets Underway

ATHENS, Georgia, January 3. EMILY Hunter placed fourth to pace Georgia on the first day of the Georgia Diving Invitational And Shootout on Wednesday at Gabrielsen Natatorium.

Hunter was fourth on the women's 3-meter springboard with 260.25 points. Utah's Kelsey Patterson took top honors with 286.75 points. The Lady Bulldogs' Natalie Thomas placed eighth with a score of 244.95. Lexie Bryant finished 20th during the preliminaries with 192.65 and did not advance to the 12-woman final.

In the men's 1-meter springboard competition, Webb Worthington placed sixth with 279.10 points and Genya Gouzeev was seventh with 276.40. Auburn's Steven Segerlin won with a score of 343.90.

"I thought we dove all right," Georgia diving coach Dan Laak said. "We're in Christmas training and we've been practicing hard, and I thought we competed well. We're about where we should be right now."

The Georgia Diving Invitational And Shootout will continue on Thursday with women's 1-meter and men's 3-meter competition. Prelims will start at 11 a.m., followed by the finals at approximately 12:45 p.m. There also will be a shootout at 6 p.m. for the top six divers from the finals. On Friday, the divers will compete on platform at 11 a.m.
