George Mason Hosts American, Army and Old Dominion

FAIRFAX, Virginia, January 27. IN a meet that had four teams competing (Mason, American, Army and Old Dominion) for a total of six dual meets on each side, Mason's women's swimming & diving team defeated all three squads and the Patriot men's team went 2-1 at the Aquatic & Fitness Center Saturday afternoon.

Mason's women's team claimed wins over American (229.50-68.50), ODU (219-80) and Army (207.50), while the men's squad defeated American (226-70) and ODU (178.50-118.50), but fell to Army (184-114).

The 200-yard medley relay team comprised of Rebecca Jimenez, Liz Ouzts, Sarah Bizer and Claire Weems opened up competition with a win in a time of 1:49.04, edging Army (1:50.81). Caitlin Impink captured the 200 free individual title as she ended in a time of 1:54.38, with Liza Moiseeva (ODU) right behind her at 1:54.53.

Bizer won two events, beginning with the 50 free in a time of 23.91 and then the 100 free (52.89). Colleen Flack placed first in the one-meter diving event with a score of 245.05, while teammate Amanda Fielding finished second in the three-meter event (243.55).

In the final event of the day, Mason's women's team ended the way it began as the Patriots finished first in the 400 free relay with the team of Mallory Pucci, Impink, Claire Weems and Bizer finishing in a time of 3:33.41.

Tom Koucheravy finished the 1,650 in a time of 15:38.20, almost a minute faster than Cory Cohan of Army (16:28.08) for the Patriots' first win of the day on the men's side. Koucheravy also won the 500 free as he registered a time of 4:35.02.

Eric Knight swam the 50 free in a time of 21.55, which was .08 seconds faster than second-place finisher, Tyler Haverty (ODU). Joe Houchin swam the 400 IM five seconds faster than Kyle Newman of Army to win the individual title in a time of 4:07.97. Houchin also placed second in the 200 fly (1:53.01) and third in the 100 fly (52.41).
