Gail Roper Downs Trio of FINA Masters World Records

DUNCAN, British Columbia, January 27. AT the Cowichan Swim Meet held this past weekend in Canada, Gail Roper of the U.S. eclipsed a trio of FINA Masters World Records over short course meters in the 80-84 age division.

In the 50 free, she clocked a sterling time of 38.03. That performance cleared the 41.34 set by Margery Meyer in 2002. Meanwhile, Roper posted a time of 1:26.23 to far surpass the 1:33.88 set by Jean Troy in 2007. Finally, with her goggles filled with water, Roper touched in 3:18.57 in the 200 free. That readout eclipsed the 3:26.52 set by Troy in 2007.

"I'm just happy to be alive and still able to achieve something worth noting," Roper told Swimming World. "I have a pacemaker and have had some hearth problems, but I am still up on the blocks. Although, I think they raise the blocks three inches every year!"
