French Cup, Chamalieres: Day One Features Prelims

CHAMALIERES, France, January 18. THE first day of swimming at the Chamalieres stop of the French Cup featured preliminary action as prelims and finals are held on separate days.

Elodie Samouilhan led women's 50 back qualifying with a top time of 31.34, while Joris Hustache topped Alain Bernard, 27.14 to 27.33, in the men's 50 back.

Top French breaststroker Anne Sophie Le Paranthoen posted the top time in the women's 50 breast with a time of 32.86, while James Gibson held off Tony De Pellegrini, 28.69 to 28.97, to clock the fastest time in the men's 50 breast.

Alena Popchanka and Malia Metella battled in the women's 50 fly with Popchanka winning 27.42 to 27.94. Laure Manaudou qualified ninth in 29.00. In the men's 50 fly, Christophe Lebon stopped the clok in 25.04 for the top seed.

In the 50 frees, Hanna Shcherba Lorgeril earned the center lane with a 26.48 among the women, while Bernard clocked the lone sub-23 in the men's prelims with a 22.71.

Camelia Potec dominated the women's distance free qualifying with a 16:31.29 in the 1500 free. Aurelie Muller posted the closest time with a second-place 16:55.28.
