Fractured Fingers Unlikely to Hinder Steffen

HANNOVER, Germany, October 31. Germany's Britta Steffen, the world-record holder in the 100-meter freestyle, recently suffered two fractured fingers on her left hand while training for the upcoming German National Championships, according to a report by SwimNews.

Steffen, who enjoyed a spectacular showing at the European Championships in August, is not expected to miss the German Nationals, also the selection competition for next year's World Championships in Melbourne. At the Euro Champs, Steffen won the 50 and 100 free events and helped Germany to world records in the 400 and 800 freestyle relays.

Provided she qualifies for the World Championships, highly likely, Steffen will be part of a women's sprint-freestyle crop that figures to provide some of the highlights of the Melbourne card. Steffen is expected to go to battle with the likes of Australia's Libby Lenton and the American tandem of Amanda Weir and Natalie Coughlin.
