Four Panthers Earn Horizon Academic All-League Winter Accolades

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin, April 29. FOUR members of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee swimming & diving team were named to the 2008-09 Horizon Academic All-League Team for the winter sports season, the league office announced today. On the women's side, seniors Molly Finn and Ashley Hall and sophomore Danielle Wenger were tabbed, while on the men's side junior Jeremy Waldhart was the lone UWM representative.

Finn receives the honor for the second-straight season and leaves as one of the most accomplished swimmers in UWM history, holding seven current school records and one league record. She won six individual league titles in her illustrious career, including four-consecutive in the 200 butterfly (setting a league mark in 2009). Finn won 13 times – and took second 11 more – while setting UWM records in the 200 fly, 100 fly, 200 IM and with two relays during the 2008-09 season. A team captain, she carries a 3.33 GPA as a journalism and mass communications major.

Hall also receives the award for the second-straight year after being named Horizon League Co-Diver of the Meet at the 2009 league championships. She won the league title in the 3-meter and took third on the 1-meter at the meet and won eight different times on the season to giver her 21 victories in just two years as a Panther. Hall was named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District as a junior, won league diver of the week honors eight times in her two years and was also tabbed Scholar-Athlete of the Week on four different occasions. She is a business major with a 3.96 GPA in the classroom.

Wenger earns the award for the first time after being named Horizon League Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Year in 2009. She won league titles in the 1000 free and 1650 free, setting a new league record in the 1000 free at the championships, as well as UWM records in the 500 free and 1650 free. She took first 15 times and second on eight other occasions this past season and was named league swimmer of the week Jan. 28. Just a sophomore, she already holds seven different school records and carries a 3.73 GPA as a graphic design major.

Waldhart is a business major with a 3.91 GPA that is being honored for the second-straight season. He set school records in the 200 backstroke (placing second) and 400 IM (taking fourth) at the Horizon League Championships this season. A team captain, he won 14 races and placed second in eight others during the 2008-09 season. He has received numerous academic honors in his career, including being named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District, Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week four times and league Scholar-Athlete of the Month once.
