Founder of The Gap, Inc. Makes Largest Individual Contribution in USA Water Polo History

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO., February 5. EXECUTIVE Director Tom Seitz announced today that USA Water Polo has received the largest philanthropic gift in the history of the organization. Don Fisher, founder of The Gap, Inc., donated $100,000 to USA Water Polo to be received over the next two years.

“Everybody involved with the sport is grateful to Mr. Fisher for his ongoing support and generosity,” said Seitz. “Don has been a faithful supporter of USA Water Polo and aquatics in general for many, many years. This is just one example of his latest act of kindness.”

The gift is the largest individual contribution ever received in the history of USA Water Polo and it signifies an important change in philanthropy for the future of the sport.

“I am glad to see USA Water Polo aggressively entering the fundraising field,” said Fisher. “This step is imperative to advance the sport and I encourage all involved with the sport to support this effort.”

The existing USA Water Polo Foundation, which was formed to invest and maintain the proceeds from the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, will now become the proactive fundraising arm of the organization.

“In today’s competitive non-profit market it is essential that we restructure the Foundation to become the solicitation arm of USA Water Polo,” said Seitz.

The new USWP Foundation campaign will complement the Speedo Challenge Matching Grant and the Speedo Cap Grant Program, which are both annual projects.
