Florida State Sweeps ACC Swimming & Diving Performers of the Week Honors

GREENSBORO, North Carolina, January 8. FLORIDA State entered the new year where it left off in 2006, sweeping Atlantic Coast Conference Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week honors in Terry Horner and Lauren Brick. The duo was instrumental in helping their respective squads remain undefeated on the year, with the Seminole men improving to 4-0 while the women are 7-0.

The league honor is the first of the season and career for Horner, while Brick has garnered the women's award the last three selections.

A native of Orlando, Fla., Horner broke two schools en route to helping the 10th-ranked Seminole men defeat UNC Wilmington by a 130-94 score last Saturday. The freshman recorded NCAA "A" marks in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events, which rank at the top of the league this season. He won the one meter with 379.50 points, surpassing teammate Alex Tillbrook's previous school record of 375.25 that was set in 2006.

Horner then won the three-meter diving event with 401.65 points, smashing the old school record of 380.92 that was set by All-American Louis Gagnet in 2003.

Brick notched a pair of individual victories and helped the 400 medley relay unit take first place as the No. 6 Seminole women defeated both UNC Wilmington (140-89) and North Florida (143-83) over the weekend. The senior from Culpeper, Va., turned in a 23.80 time in the 50 freestyle, which was two-hundredths off her fastest time this year. She also won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.88 and later swam on the winning 400 medley relay squad that posted a 3:49.78.
