Flordia 1A High School State Championships

ORLANDO, Florida, November 15. BOLLES took control of the Florida 1A High School State Championships, starting with a national high school record in the girls 200 medley relay. The team scored 523 points for first place, followed by Pine Crest (Fort Lauderdale) with 240 points and American Heritage (Plantation) with 221. The Bolles boy's team dominated the meet as well, scoring 463 points for first. Pine Crest (Fort Lauderdale) and Saint Andrew's (Boca Raton) placed second (212) and third (132.5).

Girls Individual Results
Aubrey Peacock, Caitlin Mumford, Megan Fonteno, and Dana Nessler of Bolles combined for the 200 medley relay record (1:42.35). The 2005 record (1:42.71) was held by Heartland Arrowhead.

Peacock touched out her opponent and teammate, Kylee Talwar, in the 200 IM by .23 seconds. She also took first in the 100 backstroke, earning a state record with a time of 53.84.

Talwar was touched out in the 100 breaststroke, as well, by only one-tenth of a second. Mumford swam a 1:03.93 for the win.

Fonteno out swam her teammate, Dana Nessler, by nearly .04 seconds, winning the 50 freestyle in 23.45.

Sophomore Patti Kranz of Westminster Academy took the title in the diving competition with a score of 491.05.

American Heritage's Caroline Kuczynski and Lake Highland's Chelsea Britt went head-to-head in the 100 butterfly. Although Kuczynski placed second in prelims, she won by merely .02 seconds (54.38).

Pine Crest's Stephanie Eisenring, Lara Moseley, Siena DeVenuto, and Rebecca Aiello placed first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:34.96), earning an AA-A cut.

Eisenring and DeVenuto also had individual first-place swims in the 100 and 500 freestyles, respectively. Eisenring won the 100 in 49.97 and DeVenuto took first in the 500 (4:44.29).

Peacock, Nessler, Casey Sandlin, and Fonteno joined up to close the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:23.97), earning a state record.

Boys Individual Results
Bolles won all three relays, starting with the group of Ryan Murphy, Bryce Bertoli, Timmy Romano, and Chris Sadsad. They finished the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:33.48.

Patrick Ceddia of Cardinal Mooney won the 200 (1:37.86) and 500 (4:26.17) freestyles. He earned AA-A cuts in each event.

Senior Cameron Martin of Clearwater Central Catholic also had dual individual wins in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. He finished his 100 butterfly .38 seconds faster than his 100 backstroke, with times of 49.38 and 49.76, respectively.

A 1990 state record was broken by Blair Schiller, Sadsad, Bertoli, and Tommy Gutman. The group united for a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:23.33), surpassing the previously held record by .31 seconds.

The diving competition was close between Berkley Prep's Kyle Dent and Pompano Beach's Noah Garcia. Dent trumped Garcia by 2.95 points, with a score of 508.75

Gutman, a junior, sprinted a 20.60 in the 50 freestyle. Although he won the 100 freestyle in prelims, Schiller placed first in finals by .09 seconds.

Gutman and Schiller grouped with Aldabe Bomstad and Romano for a first-place finishing time of 3:06.49 in the 400 freestyle relay.
